KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Senior Tim Phillips was part of the 200 medley relay team that set an American record last night at the 2013 AT&T Winter National Championships. Phillips, along with teammates Nick Thomas, Eric Knight and Cullen Jones, touched the wall in 1:23.02. Phillips' butterfly split was 20.02.
Phillips, who has competed in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, was swimming as part SwimMAC Team Elite, a training team based in North Carolina.
Last year at the NCAA Championships, Phillips qualified for the 100 butterfly finals in the fifth-place slot with a preliminary time of 45.99. Moving onto finals, Phillips dropped a time of 46.19 to finish eighth. The ranking merited Phillips All-America status. At the Big Ten Championships, he received second-team All-Big Ten recognition and recorded a personal-best time of 45.85 in the 100 butterfly.
