200 Free Relay Sets Ohio State Record

Ohio State remains in second place after Friday's events at the Big Ten men's swimming and diving championships at Iowa. The Buckeyes have 380 team points, behind only leader Michigan (516.5). Indiana is in third place (369), Iowa fourth (274), Penn State fifth (235.5) and Minnesota sixth (235).
In the 200 freestyle relay, the Buckeyes placed second in an Ohio State school-record time of 1:17.70, behind the performances of Jason Schnur, Lincoln Fahrbach, Zach Holmes and Zach Birnbrich. Iowa was first in a time of 1:17.61.
Shane Miszkiel placed fifth in the three-meter diving competition with a score of 406.30. Christian Holstein won the 3-meter consolation finals, placing ninth with a score of 397.65. Stephen Ettienne placed 11th with a score of 344.25.
In the 200 freestyle, Jacob Schuster was sixth (1:36.17) and Stephen Sakaris seventh (1:36.64), swimming in the championship final of that race. Zach Homes in 13th place (1:36.81) also scored points for the Buckeyes. Swimming in the C final of the 200 free, Alex Miller was 18th (1:37.65) and Michael DiSalle was 19th (1:37.76).
Andrew Elliott finished sixth in the 100 backstroke, with a time of 47.47 in that race. Also scoring points for the Buckeyes in the 100 back were Markus Sievers (47.96) in 11th place, Kevin Lancki (48.12) in 12th and Connor McDonald (48.66) in 16th.
Lincoln Fahrbach was seventh in the 100 butterfly, in a time of 46.93. Jason Schnur was also in the championship final, but was disqualified with a false start. Luke Stirton (48.06), Garrett Trebilcock (48.45) and Ryan Bubb (48.64) were 12th through 14th, all scoring team points for Ohio State.
Brent Hitchcock was Ohio State's top finisher in the 400 IM, winning the consolation final in a time of 3:50.44. Tamas Gercsak also scored points for the Buckeyes in the 400 IM, finishing 11th in a time of 3:50.57.
Ohio State will conclude competition at the Big Ten Championships tomorrow for prelims beginning at 11 a.m. and finals starting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday's events include the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, 400 free relay and 10-meter platform diving.
