Steven Springer

Senior Steven Springer was named Big Ten swimmer of the week and freshman Sean Johnson was the conference's freshman swimmer of the week, the Big Ten announced today.

Springer, from Cincinnati, Ohio and St. Xavier High School, recorded first-place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly (48.45), 200-yard freestyle relay (1:23.95) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:04.89) at the Ohio State Winter Invite last weekend. He also placed third in the 50-yard freestyle (20.92).

Johnson, from Hillsborough, N.J., placed first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:02.09) and 200-yard medley relay (1:23.95) and recorded a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (55.79) to win freshman of the week honors.

The Buckeyes are next in action February 22-25 at the Big Ten championships at Iowa.
