In the opening session of the two-day Ohio State Winter Invitational at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, the Buckeyes advanced 24 swimmers to Saturday night's finals in 12 events.
In the men's 500 freestyle, Brett Boston, Bo Wullings, Alex Osterhage and Andrew Keily were among the top eight finishers in the preliminary heats.
In the 100 butterfly, Steven Springer, Nick Wrightson and Joe Craven advanced to tonight's finals, as did Sean Johnson, Gavin Trebilcock and Blaine Kincaid in the 100 breaststroke.
Michael Gallagher had the fastest preliminary time in the 100 backstroke (49.10); he and teammates Andrew Spurling, Brett Boston, Dominic Pecze and Matt Baumann advanced to the finals in that event.
Gallagher also swam the fastest 400 IM preliminary race in 3:59.17. Buckeyes Tamas Gercsak, Garrett Trebilcock, Andrew Braun, Connor McDonald and Jared Kauffman also advanced in that event.
Buckeye Sarah Griffith
had the fifth fastest time in the preliminaries of the 100 breaststroke, advancing to the finals with her mark of 1:09.27.
In the 100 free, Spencer Rogers and Bo Wullings advanced to the event finals.
Finals in each of these events begin Saturday at 6 p.m. Preliminary heats Sunday begin at 10 a.m. with Sunday's finals starting at 5 p.m. Admission is free.
