Senior Salute: Matthieu Baumann
Jan. 24, 2012
Columbus, Ohio -
With Senior Day fast approaching, OhioStateBuckeyes.com will take time to feature each Buckeye graduating this season. The senior members of the men's swimming and diving team will be recognized Saturday, January 28, at a home tri-meet featuring Big Ten foes Penn State and Michigan.
Like many of the seniors on the 2012 Buckeye men's swim team, Mattieu Baumann started swimming at a very young age.
"I started swimming when I was nine years old." Baumann said. "I started swimming when I lived in Iowa and then our family moved to Chicago. After that I was recruited to swim at Ohio State."
Baumann was introduced to Bill Wadley on an official visit, one of his many visits in Big Ten country. Two years later, he and fellow members of his 2012 senior class would help bring Ohio State its first Big Ten Championship since 1956. Baumann and his teammates will return to his swimming birthplace when they visit Iowa City, Iowa, for the Big Ten Championships this season.
"The thing I am looking forward to most is the last few meets and practices I get to spend with my team," Baumann said. "I won't have that anymore after this year."
Baumann will soon finish his engineering degree at Ohio State and plans to go onto graduate school after his time in Columbus.
"It has been a great experience; I definitely don't regret not going anywhere else," Baumann said. "I have had a good four years and gotten a good education. I look forward to the next couple years outside of the pool."
