No. 10 Ohio State Stands In Second After First Day of Ohio State Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio - After the first day of competition at the eighth-annual Ohio State Swimming and Diving Invitational, the Buckeyes stand in second place with 286 points. Florida leads with 328 points, followed by Ohio State, Virginia (268 points) and Kentucky (167 points).
The 200 freestyle relay team of sophomore Josh Fleagle, junior Michael DiSalle, freshman Vladislav Komarov and freshman Steffen Hillmer started the night with a second place showing, touching the wall with a time of 1:19.68. Also for the Buckeyes, freshman Andrew Appleby, junior Gavin Trebilcock, senior Garrett Trebilcock and junior Keanu Stevenson finished sixth (1:22.09).
The next event was the 500 freestyle and the top Scarlet and Gray finisher was senior Alex Miller, who clocked a 4:21.24 to place fifth. Florida's Mitch D'Arrigo, a freshman, took first place in a meet-record time of 4:15.04.
In the 200 individual medley, junior Steven Zimmerman placed fourth in a time of 1:45.84 while teammate Tamas Gercsak, a junior, was fifth (1:46.04). Also for the Scarlet and Gray, junior Connor McDonald was seventh (1:47.77) and junior Dimitry Dolgov was 10th (1:48.44).
Fleagle continued his stellar night in the next event, the 50 freestyle, when he finished second in a season-best time of 19.93. That time is currently the third fastest nationally this season. DiSalle was sixth, touching the wall in 20.35. Bradley deBorde won the event in a meet-record time of 19.48.
In diving, senior Christian Holstein finished second in the 1-meter (371.15).
Ohio State closed out the finals session with a third-place performance from the 400 medley relay team of Trebilcock, Stevenson, McHugh and Fleagle (3:11.25). In fourth place was Connor McDonald, Dak Stone, Ryan Bubb and Hillmer (3:11.85).
Day two of the Ohio State Swimming and Diving Invitational gets underway tomorrow with the preliminary round at 10 a.m. The finals are slated to begin at 6 p.m.
