Ohio State Opens Magnus Cup Invitational in Fourth

The Ohio State men’s swimming and diving team completed its first day of competition Friday evening at the Magnus Cup Invitational, hosted by Cleveland State University, tallying 342 total points for fourth-place.
The Buckeyes, who traveled with a reduced roster, opened the meet with a fifth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. The group of Michael Meldon, Michael Gallagher, Andrew Slater and Gavin Trebilcock touched in a time of 1:25.89.
Sophomore Jared Kauffman had a busy night of swimming, placing fifth in the 50 breaststroke (26.46), second in the 200 individual medley (1:53.29) and fourth as a member of the 400 medley relay (3:27.80).
In distance freestyle, sophomore Sean Monahan touched fifth in the 500 with a time of 4:39.65. Meldon, on the other hand, followed up his performance in the 200 freestyle relay with a 16th-place finish in the 50 freestyle (21.80).
Ohio State concluded the night with a fourth-place showing in the 400 medley relay. Gallagher, Kauffman, Trebilcock and Meldon dropped a time of 3:27.80 in the race.
The Buckeyes will return to action tomorrow at the Magnus Cup Invitational with prelims scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
