Ettienne Shines for Buckeyes at NCAA Zone Diving Qualifier

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Junior Stephen Ettienne took fourth place in the 3-meter dive on the opening day of the NCAA Zone C Diving Qualifier, which is being held March 13-15 at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
Ettienne, from Waterbury, Conn., was coming off an impressive performance at the Big Ten Championships where he was third in the 1-meter and sixth in the 3-meter dives. He continued that momentum into today's NCAA qualifier as he finished with a final score of 700.60. Darian Schmidt of Indiana won the event with a score of 794.20. Overall, three of the top four placeholders were from Big Ten schools - Schmidt (first, Indiana), Jamie Bissett (second, Purdue) and Ettienne (fourth, Ohio State).
Freshman Alex Gonzalez also competed for the Buckeyes, taking 36th place overall with a final score of 235.20 in the 3-meter.
Action continues at McCorkle tomorrow with the preliminary and final rounds of the women's 3-meter dive and men's 1-meter dive.
