Buckeyes back in action next weekend at OSU Winter Invite Feb. 9-10

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 10 Ohio State men's swimming team concluded competition at No. 1 Michigan Saturday afternoon at Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor. The Buckeyes (8-2, 1-2 Big Ten) posted 16 Top 5 marks vs. the top-ranked Wolverines (7-0, 5-0 Big Ten) in the second session of a two-day dual meet.
The Buckeyes began the afternoon tying for second place in the 200 medley relay when the quartet of Steven Zimmerman, Keanu Stevenson, Jason Schnur and Zach Birnbrich touched the wall at 1:29.12. Alex Miller followed with a third place mark in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:29.20, while freshman Jovan Mitrovic was fourth overall with a time of 4:30.44.
Next, Tamas Gercsak (1:52.03) and Zimmerman (1:52.38) went second and third, respectively, in the 200 individual medley, while Luke Stirton (49.59) touched the wall in the third place in the 100 butterfly.
Zimmerman continued his strong showing vs. the Wolverines win he claimed a victory in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:46.49. Connor McDonald notched a Top 3 finish in the event as well, touching the wall with a time of 1:50.20.
Ohio State concluded its weekend of swimming with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay with the group of Schnur, Holmes, Birnbrich and Fleagle touching the wall in 1:20.66.
The Buckeyes return to Columbus next weekend when they host the 2013 Ohio State Winter Invitational Feb. 9-10 at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. As always, admission is free.
