South Bend, Ind. – Liz Li won two titles (100 backstroke and 50 freestyle), Noah Lense won the 100 butterfly, and the Ohio State men’s 800 freestyle relay of Andrew Loy, Matthew Abeysinghe, Nick Hogsed and Paul DeLakis claimed gold to close out day one of the Shamrock Invitational.
Li’s second win of the day came in her first individual 100 backstroke race since November of 2016. Li went out in 26.63 and returned to the finishing wall with a readout of 27.68 for a winning time of 54.31, .46 seconds closer than the No. 2 finisher.
Lense claimed his sixth individual title of the season with a solid swim in the 100 fly. The Clearwater, Fla., native won gold with a time of 47.52 throwing down splits of 22.12 and 25.40.
The men’s 800 freestyle relay found itself in fourth place after the first three legs from Loy (1:39.48), Abeysinghe (1:40.19) and Hogsed (1:37.27). DeLakis registered the quickest split of the race, a 1:34.80, to bring the Buckeyes back to the top. DeLakis erased a three and a half second deficit during his anchor leg for a winning time of 6:31.74. DeLakis also earned a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 55.39, and he was followed by teammate Jack Barone (55.53), who finished in fifth place.
Ohio State had some impressive showings in the 400 IM. Nick Hogsed claimed a first-place finish in the event with a time of 3:54.08 to edge a field of 16 swimmers. On the women's side, Kristen Romano (4:14.34) and Molly Kowal (4:20.13) swam their way to a two-three finsh.
In the women’s 100 breaststroke, Hanna Gresser paced the way for the Scarlet and Gray with a fourth-place finish clocking a time of 1:03.03. Laura Banks and Meg Bailey proceeded to finish with the exact same time of 1:03.52 to tie for fifth place. The time of 1:03.52 for Banks was a personal best.
Alexis Barker claimed the first gold of her collegiate career on the three-meter diving board with a score of 303.35.
The final day of the Shamrock Invitational will begin Saturday morning at 11 a.m. ET.

Liz Li highlighted the first session with a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle clocking a time of 22.52. The senior came out on top in the field of 53 swimmers. It is her seventh win of 2018 since starting competition for the Buckeyes. A native of Shenyang, China, she has swept both the 50 and 100 freestyle races at her past two meets. Macie McNichols finished not too far behind Li with a readout of 22.99 for a fourth-place finish.
Meg Bailey swam the 500 freestyle for the first time this season and earned a third-place showing with a personal-best time of 4:50.21, a more than six second improvement from her prior personal best (4:56.50). Nick Hogsed (4:25.21) and Brayden Seal (4:30.81) swam their way to a three-four finish in the 500 freestyle on the men’s side.
Paul DeLakis clocked a time of 1:49.41 in the 200 individual medley relay for a second-place finish in a field of 47 athletes. Ohio State's women's 200 freestyle relay of Freya Rayner, Li, McNichols and Maria Coy began the meet with a silver finish with a time of 1:30.59.
