At a glance: Zach is a legacy swimmer at Ohio State as both his father (Axel) and uncle (Mark) swam for the Buckeyes in the 1980s ... primarily a freestyle specialist ... has qualified for two-consecutive NCAA championship meets thus far in his collegiate career ... holds one school record alongside his teammates in the 200 freestyle relay (2012).
As a junior (2012): One of 10 Buckeye swimmers invited to the NCAA championships ... earned honorable mention NCAA All-America status for placing 11th (1:18.41) in the 200m freestyle relay ... swam to 17th-place finish (2:55.18) in the 400 freestyle relay at NCAAs ... was part of school record breaking 200 freestyle relay (1:17.70) at the Big Ten Championships ... also, took 19th at the conference meet in the 50 freestyle in 20.35 ... named second team All-Big Ten ... ranked fourth on the Buckeye depth chart in the 50 freestyle (20.11) ... received acknowledgement for his efforts in the classroom with Academic All-Big Ten, CSCAA All-America and Ohio State Scholar-Athlete recognition.
As a sophomore (2011): Qualified for NCAA championships as a part of the 200 freestyle relay team as well as individually in the 50 freestyle ... swam the third-fastest team time in the 50 free and the fourth-fastest time in the 100 backstroke.
As a freshman (2010): Named an Ohio State Scholar-Athlete ... received a Varsity O Letter.
Background: Swam for his father for the Anthem Dolphins club team ... has two brothers, Alex and Toby ... Zach, as a senior at Boulder Creek High, was an All-American and the state champion in the 100 freestyle and was selected as the Arizona Swimmer of the Year ... a two-time team captain, he was also a three-time regional swimmer of the year ... he was a three-year volleyball letterman as well for a team that was a two-time state runner-up ... plans to major in mechanical engineering.
