Buckeyes Begin NCAAs in Record-Breaking Fashion

Upperclassmen Jason Schnur, Zach Birnbrich, Zach Holmes and Tim Phillips drop a varsity record in 200 freestyle relay for ninth-place.

At a glance: The top sprint freestyler for the Buckeyes, Jason had a break out junior campaign ... has won two individual Big Ten titles - one 50 freestyle and another in the 100 ... holds Ohio State varsity records in each of his signature events, dropping a 19.12 in the 50 freestyle and a 42.70 in the 100 freestyle ... competed at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, where he placed eighth overall in the 50 freestyle in 22.53 ... also competed at the 2011 Conoco-Phillips U.S. National Championships the summer prior to his junior season.

As a junior (2012): Individually, Jason earned All-America recognition for his Top 3 performance in the 50m freestyle (19.35) at the NCAA championships ... competed in a total of five events at NCAAs: 50 freestyle; 100 freestyle; 200 freestyle relay; 200 medley relay; 400 medley relay ... one of three Buckeyes named first team All-Big Ten ... along with teammates, posted a school record in the 200 freestyle relay (1:17.70) at the Big Ten championships ... totaled nine individual wins on the season ... broke five meet records at the Ohio State Invitational ... set a career low in the 100 butterfly at the Ohio State Invitational with a time of 48.23 ... recognized at the season ending awards banquet with the Bill & Mae McCorkle Award for being the team's most outstanding swimmer, as well as the Chales & Irene Salie Award given to the highest placing swimming All-American.

As a sophomore (2011): Jason qualified for his first NCAA championships and competed in the 50 and 100 freestyles and four different relays ... earned All-America status as a member of the seventh place 200 medley relay team ... also was a part of the 200 freestyle relay team that finished 11th ... at his first Big Ten championships he was a part of the second place 200 medley and freestyle relay teams ... finished third in the 50 freestyle.

Background: Jason attended Oak Hills High School where he was the captain of his swimming and track teams ... was a six-time MVP athlete and all-state in track and swimming.
