At a glance: Will undoubtedly be one of the senior leaders this season in and out of the pool ... returns after redshirting the 2011-12 season due to injury ... has qualified for three Big Ten championships over the course of his career ... earned a spot at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 200 individual medley ... received the team's spirit of giving honor - the Skilken Award - following his freshman campaign ... competed at the 2010 Conoco-Phillips U.S. National Championships in Irvine, Calif, as well as the 2009 U.S. National Championships in Indianapolis, Ind.

As a redshirt senior (2012): Received a medical redshirt for the season.

As a junior (2011): Austin once again qualified for the Big Ten championships during his junior campaign ... finished ninth in the 400 individual medley at the event ... received Academic All-Big Ten and Ohio State Scholar Athlete recognition.

As a sophomore (2010): Had a terrific sophomore season in the pool for the Buckeyes, making finals at the Big Ten Conference championships in both the 200 and 400 individual medley events to help the Buckeyes win their first Big Ten crown in 54 years ... was eighth in the 200 and rose to fifth in the 400 behind a 3:48.93 clocking, the then third-fastest time in school history in the event ... Academic All-Big Ten ... Ohio State Scholar-Athlete ... earned Big Ten Distinguished Scholar recognition after recording a 3.7 grade-point average throughout the year

As a freshman (2009): Competed at the 2009 Big Ten championships, one of only a handful of Buckeye freshmen to do so ... named an Ohio State Scholar-Athlete.

Background: Austin was a four-year letterwinner at Hamilton Southeastern H.S., which won the 2007 Indiana state championship in 2007 and was runner-up in 2008 ... a member of the state champion 400 freestyle relay and was state runner-up in the 200 individual medley ... earned Southeastern Swim Club Most Outstanding Swimmer award for three consecutive years ... participated in the 2007 Junior Nationals.
