COLUMBUS, Ohio – Alex Ivanov, a junior goalkeeper on the Ohio State men’s soccer team, was named to the Capital One Academic All-District V First Team Thursday. The two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, Ivanov leads the Big Ten and is second in the country with 90 saves this season, while maintaining a grade-point average greater than 3.30 in electrical and computer engineering.
Ivanov earns his first career Academic All-District honor after being awarded Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in both 2011 and 2012, respectively. In 2013, he has claimed seven shutouts in 14 games played, while also being second in the country in goals-against average (0.74) and third in saves per game (6.43) and saves percentage (.888). Ivanov was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after helping the Buckeyes to two shutout victories last week in Columbus.
The Buckeyes will conclude the 2013 home regular season schedule at 7 p.m. Saturday vs. No. 9 Penn State. The Buckeyes will recognize their senior class as part of Senior Night and the contest vs. the Nittany Lions also will be the Connor Senn Memorial Match.
