Oct. 28, 2013
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Alex Ivanov, a junior goalkeeper on the Ohio State men’s soccer team, was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. Ivanov, a native of Strongsville, Ohio, earns his second career conference weekly honor.
Ivanov was a key factor in the Buckeyes’ two victories last week against Oakland and Cleveland State, posting back-to-back shutouts in Columbus. He made seven saves in the 4-0 win vs. the Grizzlies Oct. 23 and followed with three stops in the 1-0 win over the Vikings Oct. 27. With 90 stops, Ivanov is now ninth on the OSU all-time single season record books. The OSU goalkeeper is currently second in the country in saves (90) and third in save percentage (.891) and saves per game (6.43).
The Buckeyes conclude the home schedule at 7 p.m. ET Saturday vs. Penn State at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The game vs. the Nittany Lions will be the team’s senior night as well as the Connor Senn Memorial Game. Cash donations will be accepted to support the Connor Senn Fund for cardiovascular research at OSU’s Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute.
