COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Big ten announced its 2017 men’s soccer preseason coaches’ poll and preseason honors list Wednesday, with seniors Nate Kohl and Hunter Robertson and junior Abdi Mohamed being recognized for the Buckeyes.
Defending champion Maryland earned the top honor among the nine conference teams in the preseason poll. Ohio State was selected seventh behind the Terrapins, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Michigan and Penn State. Maryland enters the season as the conference favorite after claiming the Big Ten tournament title for the third straight season. Ohio State won the regular season crown in 2015. Northwestern and Rutgers follow the Scarlet and Gray in the poll. Three Big Ten schools are ranked in the NSCAA NCAA Division I Men’s National Preseason Rankings.
Ohio State continues its preseason schedule with an exhibition at 6 p.m. ET Wednesday against No. 25 Butler at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The team wraps up its preseason with a road scrimmage at Creighton at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Ohio State opens the 2017 season by hosting the 12th-annual Bert & Iris Wolstein Classic Aug. 25-27 in Columbus. The Buckeyes face Pitt Aug. 25 and conclude the first weekend of play against FIU Aug. 27. Admission to all Ohio State men’s soccer home games are free.
