COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s soccer team fell, 2-0, at No. 16 Wisconsin Friday night in Madison, Wis. The Badgers (13-3-2, 4-2 B1G) improve their home win streak to nine-consecutive matches in 2013, snapping the Buckeyes (5-7-5, 1-3-2 B1G) five-match unbeaten streak. Ohio State concludes the regular season winning three out of its last four contests.
Despite the Buckeyes posting the first three corner opportunities of the contest, the Badgers were able to score the first goal at 22:33 when Tomislav Zadro headed in a shot following a cross by Drew Connor. Ohio State earned corners during the second and 21st minutes, respectively, but could not find the back of the net. Senior Ben Killian posted the lone shot on goal in the first 45 minutes of play with a strike from distance but was caught by Wisconsin goalkeeper Max Jentsch at 39:08.
In the second half, Wisconsin added to its lead when Nick Janus scored an unassisted score at 71:37 when he finished off a knockdown by an OSU defender into the back right of the net. Overall, shots were 14-7 in favor of Wisconsin, while the Badgers had an 5-4 lead in corners.
Junior goalkeeper Alex Ivanov posted six saves vs. the Badgers, but falls to 5-6-5 on the year. With his six stops, Ivanov is now seventh on the OSU single-season saves list, passing former Buckeye Casey Latchem with 101 saves in 2013. The goal by the Badgers snapped a span of more than 445 minutes of shutout action by Ivanov which dated back to Oct. 13 at Michigan State.
