COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State men's soccer team battled Duke to a 0-0 draw Friday night at the Shindigz National Soccer Festival in Fort Wayne, Ind. With the draw, the Buckeyes conclude the preseason with a 1-0-1 mark after knocking off Duquesne 2-1 last Monday.
"Tonight was a very high-paced and competitive game," John Bluem, Ohio State head coach, said. "I think we probably had some of the better chances, but just couldn't put one away. It was a great test though against a very talented Duke team and I will say the improvement the team showed from the last exhibition five days ago until now is remarkable."
No official stats were kept for the match; however, it was clear the Buckeyes produced a handful of opportunities despite missing a first-half penalty kick.
"It was a very up-tempo and physical game," senior Sebastian Rivas said. "It was back and forth a lot of the match, but [Alex] Wimmer came up with a big save down the stretch and [Chris Hegngi] hit the crossbar in the last five minutes to give us a spark late."
The Buckeyes open the 2012 campaign at 7:30 p.m. next Friday at Dayton before the home schedule commences at noon Sunday, Aug. 26 vs. UIC in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Admission to the game against the Flames, and to all regular-season home games this season, is free.
