COLUMBUS, Ohio - Leann Parker, Ohio State Director of Athletics Communications, was presented with the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's Doyle Smith Sports Information/Media Award Friday at the IMLCA/Nike Awards Luncheon in Baltimore, Md.
"Leann does an amazing job with all aspects of our team communication," Nick Myers, Ohio State head coach, said. "Our players, alumni and coaching staff are grateful for the hard work and dedication she has invested into the program over the past 14 seasons."
The Doyle Smith Sports Information/Media Award is presented in honor of the career of outstanding service provided to lacrosse by longtime Virginia Assistant Sports Information Director Doyle Smith. Smith defined the game of collegiate lacrosse through his media releases and statistical and national poll coverage of the sport. His contributions to the former NCAA Lacrosse Rulebook and Guide paved the way for many of the sport's great media efforts today on TV, the Internet, and in print. The winner of this award can come from college sports information offices or from the media. The nominee has contributed greatly to the promotion and coverage of the sport.
Parker is in her 15th year in the Ohio State Athletics Communications office and was promoted to director in October 2012. She is in her 14th year as the communications contact for the men's lacrosse program, handling all media relations duties for the squad, including coordinating media requests, updating the team's website and social media accounts, handling statistics and overseeing the press box on game day. Her responsibilities also include nominating players for conference and national awards and communicating with the team's alumni, friends and family.
In addition to the work with men's lacrosse, Parker is also the communications contact for Ohio State's men's hockey and women's tennis teams and handles media relations for several special projects, including the athletics hall of fame and scholar-athlete programs. She oversees the student staff in the communications office and manages many of the day-to-day functions of the office.
