Buckeyes Release 2014 Schedule
Nov. 15, 2013
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Seven regular-season home games, featuring matchups with Penn State, Michigan and Notre Dame, as well as the ECAC Lacrosse League tournament in Columbus, highlight the 2014 schedule for the Ohio State men’s lacrosse team. The Buckeyes will travel for six games, including the regular-season opener at Johns Hopkins and an appearance in the Moe’s Classic in Jacksonville.
“This year is unique as 2014 is our last in the ECAC and we are hosting the league tournament,” Nick Myers, Ohio State head coach, said. “In addition to our league slate, we addressed our nonconference schedule by adding Johns Hopkins, Hofstra, Delaware and UMass for this season. This year’s team will be tested right out of the gate with one of the most challenging nonconference schedules we have faced at Ohio State. We know playing a tough out of conference schedule will prepare us for a battle down the stretch in the ECAC.”
Tickets for regular-season games in Columbus, as well as two exhibition contests, will go on sale Dec. 16. Single-game tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for youth (2+) and seniors. Tickets can be purchased online through Ticketmaster HERE, by calling Ticketmaster (800-745-3000), in person at any Ticketmaster outlet or in person at the Ohio State Ticket Office in the southeast corner of the Schottenstein Center. (Note service charges may apply). Ohio State students with a valid BuckID are admitted free as long as tickets are available for games inside Woody Hayes Athletic Center where seating is limited.
Group tickets (10 or more) are also available starting at $4 each when purchased in advance. Season tickets are available and are $56 for adults and $35 for youth and seniors, including service charges, and go on sale Dec. 3. Ohio State opens the season with exhibition games vs. Hill Academy Jan. 18, Navy Jan. 25 and Robert Morris Feb. 1. All three are slated for noon start times inside Woody Hayes Athletic Center. Tickets will be required for the matchups with the Midshipmen and Colonials. Note games inside WHAC are expected to sell out, so fans are encouraged to prepurchase tickets.
The Buckeyes will begin the 2014 regular season with two televised games away from Columbus. Feb. 9, Ohio State will take on Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, live on ESPNU. The matchup is the last between the teams before they face off as league foes in the Big Ten Conference beginning in 2015.
Feb. 16 Ohio State will take on UMass in the Moe’s Southwest Grill Classic at EverBank Field in Jacksonville. The night game (7 or 9 p.m.) will be broadcast by NBCSN. The game is the third appearance for the Buckeyes in the Moe’s Classic and will be the third matchup between the Buckeyes and Minutemen.
After a home game against Marquette Feb. 22 inside Woody Hayes Athletic Center, Ohio State will host future Big Ten Conference foe Penn State March 1. The game opens competition for the 2014 Creator’s Trophy, an annual traveling award among the three current Big Ten schools that sponsor men's lacrosse (Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan) that is captured when a team defeats both Big Ten opponents. Ohio State is the defending champion after topping the Nittany Lions and Wolverines on the road last year.
Non-conference road games at Hofstra and Denver follow March 8 and 15, respectively. The Buckeyes and Pride have met just twice, with Hofstra winning in 1955 and 1987. The Buckeyes and Pioneers split two games in 2013, with Ohio State defeating Denver in the ECAC Tournament championship game.
Five of the Buckeyes’ final seven regular-season games will be in Columbus. ECAC league play starts against Bellarmine March 21, slated for under the lights in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Ohio State has won the last three games vs. the Knights and six of seven overall. A midweek matchup with 2013 NCAA Tournament participant Notre Dame is set for March 25 and the Buckeyes will host Jacksonville for the first time March 29. Ohio State and Notre Dame have met each of the last 33 seasons. The first meeting between the Buckeyes and Dolphins was last season, a 9-6 Ohio State win in Florida.
A non-conference game vs. Delaware is slated for April 6, the first matchup between the teams since 2003 and the fourth in the series overall. Ohio State defeated the Blue Hens, 9-7, in 2003 and is 2-1 vs. Delaware, with the series dating to 1953.
Ohio State and Michigan will meet in Columbus for the first time as varsity opponents April 12 in the Showdown in the Shoe. The game is set for 11 a.m. and is a doubleheader with the Ohio State football spring game. The ECAC Lacrosse League game wraps up Creator’s Trophy competition for the defending champion Buckeyes, who are 2-0 vs. Michigan since the team moved to varsity status. (Note tickets are not yet on sale for the Showdown in the Shoe. Information will be released at a later date.)
Ohio State will host Air Force April 19 on Senior Day in an ECAC Lacrosse League matchup. The Buckeyes have won the last five games vs. the Falcons, including a 10-9 road win last year. April 26 the Buckeyes will travel to Fairfield for the final ECAC regular-season game. Ohio State defeated Fairfield in Columbus last season and has won two of the last three matchups.
For the first time, Ohio State will serve as host of the ECAC Tournament in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The semifinals are set for May 1, with the championship May 3. The winner receives the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.
