Sept. 14, 2011
COLUMBUS, Ohio - With the members of the 2011-12 Ohio State men's lacrosse team reporting to campus this week, the fall season is about to get underway. The fall schedule is busy and includes a golf tournament, alumni game, MRB "Thumbs Up" event and the inaugural CJD Memorial Fall Classic.
"It is great to have the men back on campus this week," Nick Myers, Ohio State head coach, said. "The fall is always a special time of year in Columbus. As a team we will use this time to develop new leaders, team chemistry and foundation for the upcoming season. I know our men are excited about the opportunities we have to honor Dan's family, Michael and Colleen and to raise money in support of these funds. We are thankful to all those who have made these events possible."
The fall events begin with the ADA Lindner Family Memorial Golf Outing Sept. 23 at the Ohio State Golf Club. The outing raises money for the Aidan W., Daniel P., and Angela M. Lindner Memorial Athletic Scholarship Fund. There are still spots in the outing - see the PDF for details on registration.
The Aidan W., Daniel P., and Angela M. Lindner Memorial Athletic Scholarship Fund is given to a junior on the Ohio State men's lacrosse team who demonstrates the qualities of integrity and leadership. It was established after former Buckeye Dan Lindner (1986-89), lost four members of his family in a traffic accident in 2006. The scholarship honors the memory of his wife, Angela, sons Daniel P. and Aidan, and mother-in-law Dorothy Meller.
The 2011 edition of the Alumni Game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 30 under the lights at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. The event is open to fans. Alumni who would like to register should contact Coach Dave Dobbins (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Oct. 9, Ohio State and North Carolina will participate in the MRB "Thumbs Up" weekend in Baltimore. The game is scheduled for noon and will be played at Calvert Hall in Baltimore. Donations will be collected at the gate, with proceeds benefiting the MRB Scholarship Fund.
The Michael R. Breschi Memorial Scholarship, one of the largest memorial endowed scholarships in the Ohio State Department of Athletics, was created in memory of Michael Breschi, the son of former Ohio State lacrosse coach Joe Breschi and his wife, Julie, who passed away tragically in March 2004 when he was just 3 years old. The Michael Robert Breschi Scholarship is given to a senior lacrosse player every year who best exemplifies the spirit of Michael.
The final fall event is the CJD Memorial Fall Classic, set for Oct. 15 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus. The day features three lacrosse games, with Ohio State taking on Ohio Wesleyan and Canisius and the Bishops and Griffins also facing off. Games begin at 1 p.m. and a $5 donation will be collected at the door for the CJD Memorial Fund to help support Nationwide Children's Hospital. The fund was set up to honor the memory of Colleen Dobbins, the daughter of Coach Dobbins and his wife, Erin, who passed away unexpectedly in March.
