June 19, 2014
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Dave Dobbins, a member of the Ohio State men's lacrosse staff the last five years, is leaving his position to join 3d Lacrosse as Director of Connecticut. Dobbins was the Buckeyes' associate head coach in 2013-2014 after joining the program as an assistant coach in July 2009.
"Dave has made an incredible impact on Buckeye lacrosse in his five years with the program," Nick Myers, Ohio State head coach, said. "I know I speak for not only the players and staff but also the alumni and friends when I say we will all truly miss Coach and his family. We are excited he has an opportunity to take on a new challenge and spend quality time with his family. We wish him all the very best moving forward and remain grateful for all he has done to help make Buckeye lacrosse what it is today."
With Dobbins on staff, the Buckeyes won the 2013 ECAC Tournament and 2014 ECAC regular season championships and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals in 2013. The program's offensive coordinator, he mentored Buckeyes to two ECAC Offensive Player of the Year awards, two ECAC Rookie of the Year accolades, six All-America honors, 10 all-conference nods and two league all-rookie team mentions.
Dobbins spearheaded the program's community service efforts, with the team volunteering more than 1,800 hours in the last three combined. In addition, he oversaw the Buckeyes' efforts in the classroom. The program has been outstanding academically, with 21 Ohio State Scholar-Athletes this past year.
"I would like to thank everyone in the Ohio State lacrosse family for the incredible support and memories during my five years with the Buckeyes," Dobbins said. "It has been an honor to have been able to coach with such an amazing group of student-athletes, coaches, support staff, alumni, parents and friends at Ohio State that have helped me grow as a coach and as a person. I cannot express how grateful I am to Coach Myers for the support he has provided my family in our time here. The decision to pursue this new, exciting opportunity with 3d Lacrosse is one I am confident is best for my family and our future. My family and I wish the Ohio State lacrosse family all the best in the future."
The process to hire a new assistant coach is underway.
