COLUMBUS, Ohio - Robby Haus, a freshman defenseman on the Ohio State men's lacrosse team, has been named the ECAC Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday.
The native of Lutherville, Md., had a career-high tying four groundballs and was a leader on the Buckeye defense that held Air Force to just two second-half goals as the Buckeyes came from behind to post a 10-9 win over the Falcons. Haus was part of the man-down unit that was 2-for-3 and held Air Force scoreless on a two-man down situation (that moved to a one-man down chance), keeping it a one-goal game to start the third quarter. Haus and the Buckeyes shut out the Falcons in the third quarter, with Ohio State scoring three goals to take the lead.
Haus has started all 12 games as a true freshman and has picked up 25 groundballs and recorded seven caused turnovers. He and the Buckeyes are 13th in the NCAA in team defense, holding opponents to 8.25 goals a game.
The No. 13/13t Buckeyes (9-3, 4-2 ECAC) host No. 20 Fairfield (8-5, 4-2) at 1 p.m. Saturday in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium to close the regular season. The squad's nine-member senior class will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
