COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Jake Withers, a freshman midfielder on the Ohio State men's lacrosse team, has been named the ECAC Rookie of the Week, the ECAC Lacrosse League announced Monday. Withers won 16-of-32 faceoffs and picked up 11 groundballs in the Buckeyes' two games combined last week. This is the third league weekly honor for Withers, a native of Peterborough, Ontario, this season.
Against No. 7-ranked Notre Dame Tuesday, Withers won nine faceoffs and had a team-best eight groundballs. He won 7-of-10 faceoffs in the Buckeyes' win over Jacksonville and recorded three groundballs.
On the year, Withers has won 52 percent of his faceoffs, ranking second in the league, and is second in the conference with 4.78 groundballs per game. He has won a team-high 64 faceoffs and picked up a Buckeye-best 43 groundballs.
Withers and the Buckeyes return to action at noon Sunday when they travel for a game at Delaware in Newark, Del. The team will then host back-to-back home games, taking on Michigan in the Showdown in the Shoe April 12 and Air Force April 19. Both league matchups will be played in Ohio Stadium.
