COLUMBUS, Ohio - After scoring four goals and seven points Saturday vs. Marquette, Buckeye freshman attackman Carter Brown was named the ECAC Lacrosse League Rookie of the Week, the league announced. A native of Bel Air, Md., Brown had a point in all five of Ohio State's man-up goals, as the squad converted 5-of-6 chances en route to an 18-8 victory over Marquette.
Against the Golden Eagles, Brown scored three goals (and added two assists) in the second quarter, with a hand in five-consecutive Buckeye tallies, to break the game open. He scored at 8:14, set up EMO goals at 5:57 and 3:37 then scored back-to-back in a 1:14 span, tallying man-up at 2:29 and then at 1:45 for a 10-4 Buckeye advantage.
Brown added his fourth goal early in the third, scoring man-up to put the Buckeyes ahead 11-5 and his final assist was on an EMO score with 11:10 left in the fourth quarter. In all, Brown had a point (2G, 3A) in all five of the Buckeyes' EMO goals, with another of his goals on a timer on situation.
The Calvert Hall College High School product is second on the team with 14 points, with six goals and a team-best eight assists. His seven points topped the six he had in the season opener vs. Detroit Feb. 9, as he had four assists and six points in his first game as a Buckeye.
Nationally, Brown ranks 11th with a 2.67 assists per game average and he is 16th in the NCAA with 4.5 points per game. He leads the ECAC in assists per outing and is tied for third in points per contest.
Brown and the No. 13/16 Buckeyes (3-0) will take on No. 8/8 Penn State (2-1) at 1 p.m. Saturday in University Park, Pa.
