COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State men's hockey freshman forward Ryan Kesler (Livonia, Mich./U.S. National Under-18 Team) has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week for the week ending Nov. 3, the league announced Monday. Kesler helped lead the Buckeyes to a split of their games against No. 7/8 Cornell and Colgate.
Kesler led the Buckeyes with four points on the weekend. He assisted on OSU's lone goal against Cornell Friday and had a team-best three points in the squad's win over Colgate. Against the Raiders, Kesler scored his first collegiate goal, a tally that stood as the gamewinner. He also recorded two assists in the game. It marked Kesler's second three-point outing of the season.
This season, Kesler is second in scoring for Ohio State with eight points. He is first on the squad with seven assists and is tied for the team lead with a +6 rating.
Kesler is the second Buckeye to earn league rookie of the week honors this season. Freshman forward Dan Knapp was honored Oct. 21 following the Buckeyes' series at Alaska Fairbanks.
The Buckeyes (4-2-1, 1-0-1 CCHA) return to CCHA action when they travel to Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., this weekend to face Lake Superior State. The Buckeyes and Lakers will face off at 7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday in Taffy Abel Arena.
