COLUMBUS, Ohio --Ohio State men's hockey junior forward Matthew Weis and sophomore defenseman Tommy Parran have both received Big Ten weekly honors for their performance in the Buckeyes' road sweep of Niagara last week. Weis was tabbed the league's first star after posting six points to tie for the NCAA lead over the last week. Parran had five points in the Buckeyes' two wins, tying for third in the NCAA.
Weis, from Freehold, N.J., had two goals and four assists for six points, along with an NCAA-best +6 rating in the two wins over Niagara combined. Friday, he had a goal and three assists for his first career four-point game and third game with three helpers, and was a career-best +4. Saturday, Weis had a goal and an assist.
On the year, Weis has 10 points, with four goals and six assists, and has a point in five of the Buckeyes' seven games. He is tied for second in points for the Buckeyes and in the Big Ten.
Parran, a native of Shaker Heights, Ohio, had two goals and three assists in the Buckeyes' sweep, with his five points tying for the NCAA lead among blueliners during the week. Friday, he had his first career two-goal game (including the eventual gamewinner) and added an assist for a career-high three points while posting a +3 rating. Saturday, he had two assists, was +1 and blocked two shots. The points in the series were the first for Parran this season.
The No. 11-ranked Buckeyes are 5-0-2 this season and take on Robert Morris in a home-and-home series this weekend. The teams will meet at 7 p.m. Friday in Value City Arena in Columbus and at 7 p.m. Saturday in Pittsburgh. Script Ohio on Ice will be performed during the first intermission of the game Friday.
