COLUMBUS, Ohio – After allowing just one goal to backstop the Ohio State men’s hockey team to a series sweep at Massachusetts, Sean Romeo, a redshirt junior goalie on the Ohio State men’s hockey team, has been named Big Ten Third Star of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Romeo, from Cary, N.C., stopped 47-of-48 shots in the road sweep, allowing just one first period goal in the series opener, as the Buckeyes won 3-1 Friday and 3-0 Saturday. He had 24 saves in game one. In game two, Romeo posted 23 saves for the first shutout of his collegiate career.
On the year, Romeo ranks fourth nationally in goals-against average (1.30) and eighth in save percentage (.943), ranking third in minutes played (368:44).
Ohio State (3-1-2, 1-1-0-0 B1G) faces Robert Morris (2-3-0, 2-3-0 AHA) in a home-and-home series this weekend. The teams will meet in Value City Arena in Columbus Friday and in Pittsburgh Saturday, with puck drop at 7 p.m. each night. The game in Columbus includes trick or treating on the concourse for youth pregame and the chance for children to shoot on the Buckeye net postgame.
