COLUMBUS, Ohio - Eric Meloche and Louie Colsant had two goals each to lead Ohio State to a 7-4 victory over Wilfred Laurier of Canada in an exhibition hockey game tonight at the OSU Ice Rink.
The Buckeyes took an 3-1 first period lead behind goals from Meloche and Colsant. But the Golden Hawks battled back to tie the game at 3-3 behind Jeff Ambrosio's goal ten seconds into the third period. The two teams traded goals before Todd Rech scored from just outside the crease to give the Buckeyes the lead for good 5:46 into the third period.
Dan Cousineau and Louie Colsant added goals in the third period for the Buckeyes. Cousineau also notched two assists in the game.
The Buckeyes are now 21-14-1 all-time in opening games, including 21-5-0 in home openers. The stats from this game do not count as this was an exhibition game. The win will also not count in OSU's season total.
Ohio State next sees action Friday, October 10, when they square off with Boston College in a rematch of last year's national semifinal game. The game will start at 4:00 CDT in the Mariucci Arena on the campus of the Univeristy of Minnesota.
