Max McCormick Signs Contract with Ottawa Senators

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Max McCormick, who completed his junior season with the Ohio State men's hockey team in March, has agreed to terms on a two-year entry-level contract with the NHL's Ottawa Senators. McCormick, who was drafted by the Senators in the sixth round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft (No. 171), will forgo his final year of collegiate eligibility. He is expected to participate in the Senators' development camp this summer.
"I can't say thanks enough to Ohio State and especially my teammates for the best years of my life," McCormick said. "I'm excited about the opportunity that lies ahead. I'm ready to chase my dream."
McCormick played in all 37 games for the Buckeyes in 2013-14, ranking second on the squad with 35 points, including 11 goals and a team-high tying 24 assists. He had a point in 26-of-37 games and ended the season on a seven-game assist streak, with nine helpers in the stretch, including four in the Buckeyes' run to the Big Ten Tournament championship game.
"Max was an outstanding example of a successful student-athlete during his time at Ohio State," Steve Rohlik, Ohio State head coach, said. "We are excited for his new opportunity and wish him all the best as he takes the next step in his hockey career."
A business - finance major, McCormick is a three-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. He was the Buckeyes' honoree as the team's CCHA Scholar-Athlete in 2013.
In his career, McCormick played in 104 games, scoring 36 goals and adding 52 assists for 88 points. He had 13 power play goals for the Scarlet and Gray, along with four game-winning tallies. He was honored as a member of the CCHA All-Rookie Team in 2012.
