Columbus, Ohio-- The Ohio State men's hockey team will have 17 regular season home games in 2017-18 including 12 against Big Ten opponents as well as an exhibition game on Sept. 30 to kick off the year. The Buckeyes will hit the road for 17 games to bring their season total to 34 for the upcoming campaign, six of which will be against 2017 NCAA Tournament participants.
The season begins and ends the same way: with games against the Wisconsin Badgers. Ohio State will open the 2017-18 season on the road in Madison the weekend of Oct. 6-7 and will end the year in Value City Arena against Wisconsin. After opening against the Badgers, the Buckeyes will face non-conference foes in four of the next five weekends. They will face RPI to open up their home schedule Oct. 13-14 before playing at Massachusetts the following weekend. A home-and-home series with Robert Morris precedes a home series with the newest member of the Big Ten, Notre Dame, before Ohio State plays UConn at the Huskies' rink. After that the Buckeyes' schedule is comprised of all Big Ten teams, aside from a late December series against Niagara.
Thanksgiving weekend Ohio State will travel to Ann Arbor for a two-game set against Michigan before coming back home to host Penn State and Minnesota. A pair of road series open the new year with the Buckeyes playing at Michigan State and then traveling to Penn State to conclude their season series with the Nittany Lions. After a bye week Ohio State hosts Michigan the weekend of Jan. 26-27, with the Spartans coming to Columbus the following weekend. The Buckeyes close out the road portion of their schedule with trips to Notre Dame and Minnesota and then host the Badgers to wrap up the regular season.
Ohio State had its best season in several years in 2016-17 which ended in the NCAA Tournament to eventual national runner-up Minnesota Duluth. The Buckeyes' 21 wins were the most since 2009, which was also the last year the Buckeyes made the NCAA Tournament.
