COLUMBUS, Ohio - Seventy-two Ohio State winter student-athletes have been named to the Academic All-Big Ten team, the Big Ten Conference announced Wednesday. In all, 678 winter sports student-athletes were recognized across the conference from men's and women's basketball, men's and women's gymnastics, men's hockey, men's and women's swimming and wrestling programs. To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners who are in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
The Buckeye men's swimming and diving program led the way for the winter teams with 26 honorees, while the women's swimming and diving team had 11 student-athletes recognized. Men's hockey, in the first year as an official Big Ten Conference sport, had 10 honorees, followed by women's gymnastics with seven, wrestling (6), men's gymnastics (5), women's basketball (4) and men's basketball (3).
