March 6, 2012
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sean Duddy, a senior defenseman and finance major on the Ohio State men’s hockey team, has been designated the squad’s 2011-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced Tuesday.
The faculty athletic representative at each school, in consultation with the head coach, selected the institution’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Each school’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year serves as the program’s nominee for the CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. Nominees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 through the fall term of the selection year.
A Top 10 finalist for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, Duddy, from Ann Arbor, Mich., has a 3.97 grade-point average in finance and is scheduled to graduate at Winter Commencement ceremonies later this month. A Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, Academic All-Big Ten honoree and Ohio State Scholar-Athlete, he was selected to the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District IV First Team as a junior. He was one of 35 students from the Fisher College of Business to be named to the Dean’s Leadership Academy and has served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Board since 2009.
Duddy served as a captain for the Buckeyes as both a junior and senior. He ended his career with 124 games played, with two goals, 22 assists and 24 points. He skated in all 35 games in 2011-12 and had a career-best 13 assists and 14 points after entering the campaign with just nine assists and 10 points in his first three years.
