COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sean Romeo, a redshirt junior goalie on the No. 6-ranked Ohio State men’s hockey team, was named Big Ten Second Star of the Week Tuesday after allowing just three goals in the Buckeyes’ series split at No. 1 Notre Dame last weekend. This is the fourth B1G weekly honor for Romeo, who is in the Top 10 nationally in goals-against average, save percentage and winning percentage, this season.
Against the Irish, Romeo had a .957 save percentage and 1.53 goals-against average in a 2-1 loss and 5-1 victory. Friday he had 27 saves, including 11 on the penalty kill as the Buckeyes were 6-for-6. Saturday, Romeo made a career-high 39 saves, including 22 on 23 shots in the second period to help the Buckeyes maintain a one-goal lead heading into the third period.
On the year, Romeo has a 2.10 goals-against average, .925 save percentage and 16-7-4 record.
Ohio State, 19-7-4 this season and 12-7-1-0 in the Big Ten to stand in second place, travels for two games at No. 10/9 Minnesota this weekend. The teams will meet at 9 p.m. ET Friday on BTN and at 5 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
