COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State men’s hockey senior goalie Brady Hjelle was named the CCHA Warrior Goaltender of the Week, marking his fifth league weekly award of the season and his second in a row. Hjelle, from International Falls, Minn., had a league-high 74 saves, including a career-high 45 Saturday night, as Ohio State went 1-0-1 vs. No. 9/11 Notre Dame over the weekend.
Hjelle had 29 saves Friday as Ohio State came back to win, 6-3. Saturday, he had a personal-best 45 saves, allowing two goals, to earn Perani Cup First Star honors as Ohio State skated to a 2-2 overtime tie with the Irish.
On the year, Hjelle is fifth in the NCAA with a 1.68 goals-against average and ranks third nationally with a .945 save percentage and ranks second in the CCHA in both categories. In league play only, he is first with a 1.42 goals-against average and .953 save percentage, with his save percentage second and his gaa fourth nationally among all goalies in the nation in conference action.
Hjelle leads the CCHA with 49 Perani Cup points, awarded for three star of the game honors in conference games only. He has been named the first star a league-best eight time and has been named a first or second star 11 times in 16 conference starts.
The Buckeyes (11-11-6, 10-6-4-1 CCHA) return to action with two games at Alaska (12-10-4, 10-9-3-1 CCHA) this weekend, facing off at 7:05 p.m. AT/11:05 p.m. ET Friday and Saturday in the Carlson Center in Fairbanks, Alaska.
