Game two between the No. 9 seed Buckeyes (15-13-5, 11-12-5-1 CCHA) and No. 8 seed Irish (18-16-4, 12-13-3-0 CCHA) is set for 7:35 p.m. Saturday in Notre Dame, Ind. The game will be televised live by FS Detroit Plus, with the radio broadcast on 1460 AM in Columbus and online on OhioStateBuckeyes.com. If needed, game three will be at 7:05 p.m. Sunday. The Irish led 1-0 after the first period on the strength of a goal by Billy Maday at 9:08. Shots were 11-10 in favor of Ohio State in the period. Ohio State had two power-play chances in the stanza, while Notre Dame had one attempt.
In the second, Notre Dame converted an early power play chance, as Maday tallied his second of the game at 2:50 for a 2-0 Irish advantage. Ohio State ended the period on a major power play that started with four minutes left in the stanza and Notre Dame was 1-for-2 with the man advantage. The Irish outshot the Buckeyes in the period, 13-11.
Neither team scored in the third period, with Ohio State outshooting Notre Dame, 11-7. Ohio State had two power play chances and Notre Dame was 0-for-1.
The Buckeyes outshot the Irish, 33-30, in the contest. Buckeye senior goalie Cal Heeter had 28 saves in 58:04 as he was pulled late for the extra attacker. For the Irish, Steven Summerhays had 33 saves in all 60 minutes as the Buckeyes were shut out for the fifth time this season.
In the game, the Buckeyes were scoreless on five power play chances, with Notre Dame converting 1-of-4 opportunities.
The loss was the Buckeyes' first to Notre Dame in the postseason. It was the first matchup between the teams on Irish home ice in the playoffs.
