Prior to Ohio State

  • Played 34 games for the Waterloo Black Hawks in the USHL in 2016-17, with 20 points on four goals and 16 assists; also saw action in eight playoff games
  • Pepresented the United States in five international tournaments, including winning bronze at 2014 U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 
  • Skated with Omaha (6 gp, 1g, 1a, 2p), Chicago (32 gp, 3g, 8a, 11p) and Muskegon (24gp, 5g, 8a, 13p) in the USHL in 2015-16
  • Spent 2013-14 and 2014-15 with U.S. National Team Development Program and had 16 points (4g, 12a) in 50 games with the U18 team
  • Played with Little Caesars (2007-10), Belle Tire (2011-12) and Compuware (2013) before moving to NTDP
  • Graduated from Brighton High School in 2015

Off the Ice

  • Son of Ken, an orthopedic nurse manager, and Nicole, a clinical nurse manager 
  • Has a younger brother, Aaron
  • Biological father Dan Gabriele was selected in the first round of the MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox Plans to major in business and would like to get into real estate law
  • Enjoys playing any sport and spending time with family 
  • Plays banjo, mandolin and guitar and can solve the 3x3 and Pyraminx Rubik’s cubes
  • Chose Ohio State because “I always wanted to go to a Big Ten school. Besides the unbelievable academic opportunity, any college hockey player dreams of winning a national championship. I know at Ohio State we can do that. Also, I feel it’s the best place to prepare for the next level.”
  • Grew up playing against Buckeye junior Tanner Laczynski before the two were teammates with the Chicago Steel
  • Played with and against Ohio State juniors Ronnie Hein and Sam McCormick growing up
  • Favorite hockey player is Erik Karlsson, saying “I try and model my game after him. Besides being a great defender I really like the way he gets involved in the offense and his ability to make the people around him better.” 
  • Started hockey at age 2; began with roller hockey and moved to ice about age 3; a lot of family members grew up playing hockey so it was passed down, with his grandpa his biggest influence in the sport
