COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State men's gymnastics team will continue the preseason at its second intrasquad at 7 p.m Saturday at The Cup Invitational held at The Duke Energy Convention Center in Cincinnati.
"At this intrasquad, we will compete as one team starting on floor exercise," Ohio State head coach Rustam Sharipov said. "This will be another step in preparation for the upcoming season and a good experience for the newcomers on the team."
The Buckeyes, recently picked to finish fourth in the Big Ten Preseason Coaches' Poll, will compete as one team this weekend instead of splitting into two squads. Similar to the Scarlet & Gray Intrasquad held Dec. 8 at the Steelwood Athletic Training Facility, four to five gymnasts will compete on all six Olympic events in front of judges to simulate the environment at regular-season competitions.
Last week at the Scarlet & Gray Intrasquad, the gray team defeated the scarlet team, 252.000-249.900 to come away with its third win in the last four years. The top three scores on each event counted toward the final results.
Six different Buckeyes earned first-place finishes at the Scarlet & Gray, as freshman Jake Martin took first in the all-around (79.800) and on vault (15.000), junior Blaize Monks took first on floor exercise (14.800), freshman Alex Nork placed first on pommel horse (13.000), sophomore Drew Moling took first on rings (15.100), junior Misha Koudinov took first on parallel bars (14.600) and senior Brandan Jones finished first on high bar (14.500).
The Buckeyes have a break in action following Saturday's Cup Invitational before returning to competition at 2 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Alumni Exhibition at the Steelwood Athletic Training Facility.
