COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State men's gymnastics team released its 2014 schedule today. The Buckeyes will host three home meets, including an invitational at the Arnold Challenge, in addition to traveling for seven contests.
"We have a tough schedule this year," Ohio State head coach Rustam Sharipov said. "We're competing against defending national champion Michigan twice during the regular season, and we're also traveling to Stanford. The team is really excited and they've worked hard to reach the next level toward our goal of becoming a national contender."
Ohio State opens the season with a pair of exhibition meets, participating in the Scarlet and Gray Intrasquad Dec. 18 followed by the Alumni Exhibition Jan. 11. Both preseason competitions are scheduled to take place at Steelwood Athletic Training Facility.
The team opens its regular season schedule on the road at the Windy City Invitational Jan. 18 for the fourth consecutive season. The Scarlet and Gray next travel to take on Illinois Jan. 25 in Champaign, Ill., before heading to Ann Arbor, Mich., Feb. 1 for the first of two regular season meets against the 2013 NCAA Champion Wolverines.
The Buckeyes host their first home meet of the season Feb. 14 against Cal-Berkeley at St. John Arena before traveling to the Winter Cup, a USA Gymnastics Event held in Las Vegas Feb. 20-22.
Following the Winter Cup, Ohio State returns to action at home as host of the Arnold Challenge. The six-team invitational will be held at the Columbus Convention Center March 1 and feature competition from Michigan, Iowa, Nebraska, Arizona State and the Canadian National Team.
The Buckeyes wrap up the regular season with a meet at Stanford March 8, followed by Senior Day against Temple and Oklahoma March 15 at St. John Arena.
The 2014 Big Ten Championships will be hosted by Nebraska March 28-29 at the DeVaney Center in Lincoln, Neb. Last year, each team in the Big Ten Conference ended the season ranked within the Top 11 nationally, with Michigan, Penn State, Iowa and Illinois advancing to the 2013 NCAA Team Finals.
After the conference championships, Ohio State will have two weeks to prepare for the 2014 NCAA Championships hosted by Michigan at the Crisler Center April 10-12 in Ann Arbor, Mich. The three-day championships start with two qualifying sessions Thursday followed by the team finals Friday and the individual event finals Saturday.
