COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State men's gymnastics team has added Jake Martin to the 2013 squad, head coach Rustam Sharipov announced Monday. Martin, a native of Oviedo, Fla., was a three-time U.S. junior national team member from 2009-11.
"We are really excited that Jake joined our program this summer," Sharipov said. "This will give him more time to adjust to college life and he will make a huge impact on our team this upcoming year."
Martin claimed Top 5 marks in the men's junior (16-18) all-around competition at the Visa Championships in both 2010 and 2011. Martin, who was coached under current assistant coach Casimiro Suarez from 2009-2011 at Orlando Metro Gymnastics, claimed a gold medal in the all-around competition of the 2010 Junior Olympic National Championships.
Martin competed in his first men's senior elite meet at the 2012 Visa Championships, finishing 20th overall in the all-around competition, including an 86.40 mark in the finals. He finished 11th overall on high bar with a two-day total of 28.70 and 14th overall on vault with a 31.00 two-day mark.
