COLUMBUS, Ohio - Sophomore to be Jamie Natalie (Hockessin, Del.) was named to the U.S. Gymnastics Goodwill Games team and will compete July 16 to Aug. 2, in Long Island, New York. Natalie is one of six gymnast on the team which will represent the United States.
Natalie was one of the top freshmen gymnasts in the country last season. Natalie scored team season highs for Ohio State on vault (9.775), pommel horse (9.75) and parallel bars (9.85). He also scored 57.975 which was second best on the team.
Natalie was also a member of the 1997 U.S. Senior National Team and competed in the 1996 Pan American Championships in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
Junior Doug Stibel also competed at the Goodwill Games trials, but was not selected for the team.
Ohio State head coach Miles Avery was named an assistant for the men's U.S. Gymnastics Goodwill Games team. Avery, who finished his first year as head coach at Ohio State, has plenty of international coaching experience including being an assistant at the 1996 Olympics and coaching at the 1994 World Championships. Avery himself was a member of five U.S. National teams.
