Two Future Buckeyes Excel at Junior Olympic Nationals

Columbus, Ohio – Sean Neighbarger and Max Andryushchenko, both who will be joining the Ohio State men’s gymnastics team this fall, had strong showings this past weekend at the Junior Olympic Nationals, which were held in Kissimmee, Fla.

Neighbarger and Andryushchenko both competed in the senior division (ages 17-19) on Thursday and Saturday and performed splendidly. Both of the future Buckeyes finished in the Top 20 of the Level 10 all-around competition that consisted of 70 athletes.

Andryushchenko, a native of Illinois, registered a fifth-place finish in the overall scoring with a point tally of 137.500. Neighbarger came in 12 spots behind Andryushchenko in 17th position with a readout of 133.050. Each athlete had the highest scores of the finals in a respective event.


 

 

Andryushchenko excelled in the finals with the highest score of all competitors on the rings with a 9.700. Neighbarger came away with the overall event title on the floor; his two-day score of 25.750 resulted in gold.
