COLUMBUS, Ohio - Sean Melton, a member of the No. 4 Ohio State men's gymnastics team, has earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors, the conference office announced Monday. The award marks the third Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor for the Orlando, Fla., native.
Melton earned two Top 5 finishes and one Top 10 finish against No. 2 Stanford, No. 10 California and Arizona State Saturday at Burnham Pavilion in Palo Alto, Calif., to contribute to the Buckeyes' second-highest team score of the season (442.40). Melton posted a career-high 15.60 to finish second overall on parallel bars, a 14.80 to finish fifth overall on high bar and tied a career-high 15.05 to finish sixth overall on pommel horse. Melton's score on parallel bars was a team-best mark, while his scores on high bar and pommel horse were the second and third best scores on the team, respectively.
The Buckeyes return to St. John Arena Saturday, March 15 at 4 p.m. for their final home meet of the season against No. 1 Oklahoma and Temple. The meet marks Senior Day for Will Jeffreys, Brandän Jones, Misha Koudinov, Michael Newburger and Nick Tagliaferro, who will be honored in a ceremony before the start of the meet.
