Columbus, Ohio – Alec Yoder was named the Co-Big Ten Gymnast of the Week on Monday afternoon. This is the second time in as many weeks that he has been recognized by the conference office as the top gymnast in the Big Ten; he shares the award with Shane Wiskus of Minnesota.
An Indianapolis native, Yoder posted four top-three finishes and three-top five national scores on Friday night, including titles on the pommel horse and high bar. Yoder scored a 14.850 on the pommel and a 14.500 on the high bar for the two titles; the 14.500 on the high bar was a season best and ranks as the second best score in the nation. He also scored a 14.050 on the vault for bronze, and his 14.450 on the parallel bars earned him silver.
This is the third time in his career that he has been named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week. Yoder, along with teammates Sean Melton, Sean Junior Neighbarger and Max Andryushchenko, will compete at the 2018 Winter Cup meet this Thursday and Saturday in Las Vegas.
