Columbus, Ohio - After making his 2018 debut on Saturday night in Lincoln, Neb., redshirt senior Sean Melton of the Ohio State men's gymnastics team has been named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week for his performance against the Cornhuskers.
Melton eased his way into competition competing on three events: still rings, high bar and pommel horse. The U.S. senior national team member collected a pair of first-place finishes on the rings (15.150) and high bar (14.100). The Orlando, Fla., native also earned a sixth-place finish on the pommel horse with a 13.650.
His score of 15.150 on the rings is the best score in the nation on the event thus far in 2018, and his readout of 14.100 on the high bar ranks No. 3 in the NCAA. Melton earns this B1G award for the ninth time in his career.
The Buckeyes will be back in action on Feb. 3 as they travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., for a dual meet with Michigan.
