Yoder Tallies Highest All-Around Readout in the Country

Alec Yoder competed on all six events for the first time in 2018 and came away with the highest all-around score in the nation, an 83.600, as the No. 6 Ohio State men's gymnastics team fell to No. 7 Michigan 411.850-410.650 at Cliff Keen Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Yoder claimed event titles on the parallel bars, high bar and all-around. His parallel score of 14.650 put the finishing touches on his NCAA-best all-around score of 83.600. On the high bar, he scored a readout of 14.100 to come out with the event title. His 14.650 on the parallel bars is the second-best score in the NCAA.

Team wise, the Buckeyes excelled on the rings with a season-best score of 71.750. Sean Melton led the way with a 14.900, Yoder followed with a 14.550 and Chris Coombs (14.400), Max Andryushchenko (14.200) and Alex Wilson (13.700) rounded out the scoring efforts for Ohio State. Ohio State's 71.750 is the best score in the nation by more than 1.50 points. The foursome of Melton, Yoder, Coombs and Andryushchenko swept the top four spots in the event. Melton also claimed gold on the pommel horse with a season-best score of 14.000.


 

 

The Buckeyes also became only the second team in the nation to score 70-plus points on the parallel bars with a season-best readout of 70.250. Yoder's aforementioned 14.650 was the top Scarlet and Gray tally to go along with a second-place finish from Andryushchenko.

Andryushchenko had a stellar day on five events where his average score per event was a 13.650. In three of his five events he competed in, floor (14.000), rings (14.200) and parallel bars (14.200), he recorded collegiate career bests.
