COLUMBUS, Ohio - Head coach Donnie Darr of the Ohio State men's golf team announced the signing of Nick Sparling to a National Letter of Intent Wednesday. Sparling is set to join the Buckeyes for the 2014-15 season.
"I'm really excited to have Nick join our program," Darr said. "He has proven to be a great player, but what really impresses me with his game is his upside. He has only scratched the surface of how good he can be and we are anxious to help him maximize his potential."
Sparling hails from Dublin, Ohio, and attends Dublin Coffman High School. The two-time Ohio Capital Conference Player of the Year (2012, 2013) captured back-to-back Ohio Division I state titles, taking the individual crown in 2012 and 2013. Sparling is a two-time all-state first team honoree and has been named his school's most valuable player two years in a row. In 2013 alone, Sparling won 10 tournaments in his final season at Dublin Coffman. This season, he set an OCC record with a 64 at the Granville Golf Club and also shot a course record 62 at the Golf Club of Dublin.
"I believe his passion, confidence and competitiveness will allow him to have an immediate impact on our team," Darr added. "It's going to be very fun watching him compete for Ohio State the next four years."
