COLUMBUS, Ohio - Sophomores Boo Timko and Grant Weaver and freshman Michael Bernard were three of 36 student-athletes named to the Big Ten Men's Golfers to Watch List, the conference announced Tuesday.
Timko played in all 12 tournaments played by Ohio State last season. The Girard, Ohio, finished his freshman campaign fourth on the team with a 74.69 stroke average and had 28 rounds counted towards team score. He notched two rounds in the 60s and three total under par.
Weaver, the 2012 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, competed in 11 of 12 tournaments last season and was the squad's top finisher three times. The Wooster, Ohio, native 75.52 stroke average was fifth overall on the team and he had 22 of 29 rounds counted towards team score.
Bernard joined the Buckeye squad this year ranked No. 14 in the class of 2012 Golfweek/Sagarin ratings. He was the 2011 PGA Junior Player of the Year and was medalist at the 2010 U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier. The Huber Heights, Ohio, product, posted the lowest stroke-average in his high school's conference all four years and holds every golf record at Wayne High School.
The Buckeyes kick off the fall season at the Marshall Invitational, Sept. 10-11. Ohio State is the two-time defending champion of the tournament.
