Buckeyes Take Ninth at Royal Oaks Intercollegiate

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State men's golf team concluded its time at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in Dallas, Texas Tuesday in ninth, carding an 8-over 1073 overall score at the 6-count-5 tournament. Freshman Frederik Hammer recorded the lowest total for the Buckeyes with a 4-under 209 for 15th-place on the par 71, 7,068-yard course at the Royal Oaks Country Club.
In the third round of play, Hammer threw down a 2-under 69 with four birdies. A native of Rungsted, Denmark, Hammer finished two of the three rounds under par and even pitched in an eagle during the second.
Sophomore Tee-k Kelly and junior Boo Timko followed in a tie for 41st and 49th, respectively. Kelly ended the tournament with a strong 1-under 70 performance in the third round, while dropping a respective 3-over 216 overall. Timko, on the other hand, rallied with a 5-over 218 total. The Girard, Ohio, native posted a 3-over 74 in the third round with two birdies on the scorecard.
A pair of sophomores - Michael Bernard and Max Rosenthal - was the next highest finishers for the Scarlet and Gray. Bernard improved over the course of each round to finish with a 6-over 219 for 53rd, while Rosenthal was one stroke behind his teammate with a 7-over 220 performance for 59th.
Rounding out the Buckeye scoring total was junior Logan Jones who battled back for an 11-over 224 total for 65th-place.
Oklahoma State brought home the team title with a 36-under 1029; team member Kevin Dougherty placed on top the individual rankings (11-under, 202).
Ohio State will enter an extended break following the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate. The squad will return for Big Ten Match Play, Feb. 14-15, in Sarasota, Fla.
