DAYTON, Ohio – All five members of Ohio State’s scoring five at the Dayton Intercollegiate finished in the top-15 as the Buckeyes finished runner-up in their final event of the fall.
Junior Will Grimmer collected his first top-5 finish of the season and the third of his career as he carded a final round 74 to finish in third place at even-par 213. That was just one shot off the pace. He finished the fall with a 71.71 scoring average and nine of 14 rounds at par or better.
Sophomore Jeg Coughlin III fired a season-best 3-under 68 on Tuesday, making five birdies and just two bogeys. That followed rounds of 76-75 and he finished tied for ninth at 6-over. This was Coughlin’s best finish of his career as well as his first top-10.
The other three members of the scoring five all finished tied for 14th at 7-over par. Daniel Wetterich posted a final round 75 and led the team this fall with a 70.57 scoring average and tied Grimmer with nine rounds at par or better.
Kevin Stone, playing in his first collegiate tournament, carded at 73 in Tuesday’s final round to finish at 7-over par. He posted rounds of 72-75-73 in his first event. Caden Orewiler was the third Buckeye to finish at 7-over with a final round 74.
Individually for the Buckeyes, Justin Wick carded rounds of 76-73-75 to finish at 11-over par. Caleb Ramirez finished at 13-over after a final round 78 and Will Voetsch posted a 76 on Tuesday to finish at 17-over.
The Buckeyes entered the final round seven shots behind Miami (Ohio) and were able to make up two shots but weren’t able to get any closer to the Redhawks. The second place finish was the best result of the fall for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State will break for the winter months before resuming action at the Big Ten Match Play Championship on Feb. 9-10. That event will be played at the Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Fla.
